According to News 4 San Antonio, an 18-wheeler jackknife truck accident led to hundreds of drivers being stranded on a Texas interstate for hours during freezing temperatures.  Emergency vehicles were hindered due to the icy road conditions.  Some drivers and passengers were trapped in their vehicles for 18 hours waiting for the storm to pass.

The truck accident occurred early this morning when an 18-wheeler jackknifed across both sides of the Interstate 10 highway. Local officials confirmed the highway was congested due to the freezing temperatures prior to the accident. A second truck accident halted traffic completely.

There are no current reported injuries or deaths according to Kerrville County Sheriff’s deputies. The Texas Department of Transportation is warning drivers that the highways will be backed up for hours. 350,000 homes and businesses have lost power due to falling tree limbs and encrusted power lines.
