Biography

Steve grew up in Houston and attended St. Vincent de Paul and St. Thomas High School before going to the University of Houston. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Steve began working on his master’s and as a football graduate assistant for U of H coach Bill Yeoman. “I loved it!” Steve says enthusiastically, “That was part of the reason I was getting my master’s in education, because I wanted to be a coach. To watch Coach Yeoman and to see his effect on people was tremendous. He is in the College Hall of Fame! I knew I wanted to help people in my own way.”

After receiving his master’s in education Steve decided his way to help those in need was through the law. “After a lot of thought I knew my place was in the law. I would see the injustice that was going on all around me and knew that I could use my education and background to make an impact on the lives of people.” He earned his law degree from the South Texas College of Law where he was Assistant Editor of the South Texas Law Review and graduated cum laude.

Shortly thereafter, Steve joined Williams Bailey Law Firm as an associate and put his nose to the grind stone. “I have always been driven and this firm is like a family. We support one another and are concerned about the well being of our clients. In fact, we look at our clients as family members and work hard for them. Their disappointments are our disappointments and their triumphs are our triumphs. We work hard because we want them to know we are doing everything in our power to take care of them.”

Representative Personal Injury Litigation Experience:

  • Obtained a $200,000,000 jury verdict on behalf of two women who suffered heart-valve damage as a result of taking the diet product “fen-phen.” The diet drug fenfluramine, also known as Pondimin, Wyeth negligently manufactured, advertised and sold the drug Pondimin. Wyeth negligently failed to provide reasonable information regarding the risks of valvular heart disease caused by Pondimin. Because of Defendant's negligence, Plaintiffs suffered personal injuries arising from the ingestion of Pondimin. Fen PHen was sold from 1995 until withdrawn from the market on September 15, 1997.
  • Obtained a $46,500,000 jury verdict in St. Louis against Monsanto and other manufacturers in connection with PCB pollution that caused our clients to develop cancer. This was the first major victory against Monsanto after others had tried and failed to hold them accountable. The awards were settled for a confidential amount after trial.
  • Obtained $20,000,000 jury verdict for the victim of a sexual assault due to inadequate security and failure to warn. $7 Million for past mental anguish/pain and suffering, $5 Million for future mental anguish/pain and suffering and $8 Million DTPA violations. • Obtained $16,547,000.00 jury verdict in Harris County against Maxim Crane Works, L.P due to negligence. Plaintiffs were working as ironworkers for their employer Seele, Inc. They were to assist in guiding the glass panel, once it was safely lifted out of its position. Defendant Maxim Crane was responsible for operating and signaling the crane used to lift the glass. In the process of attempting to remove and lift the glass, Defendants lost control of the glass load and allowed it to swing out of control. Plaintiffs and the scissor lift crashed to the ground after being struck by the uncontrolled glass load. Defendants violated industry regulations, industry standards, Maxim Crane’s safety rules, and the safety rules contained in the Crane manual. Plaintiffs were rushed to the Hospital Emergency room where they were treated for their serious, life changing injuries. Both Plaintiffs underwent surgery to repair and attempt to stabilize multiple fractured vertebrae and other injuries they sustained in the fall.
  • Obtained $15,000,000 jury verdict for the family of an individual who was killed in an automobile-pedestrian collision. In March of 2015, a Jeep Cherokee driven by an employee of Siemens Medical Solutions U.S.A., Inc. was exiting a private drive on Cali Drive in Houston, Harris County, TX. Defendant failed to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians crossing Cali Drive. As a result, Defendant caused his vehicle to violently collide with pedestrian as she walked across the roadway. Our client suffered fatal injuries from the collision. The driver was in the course of his employment with Defendant Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. at the time of the collision. HNMC, Inc. was designated as a third party responsible for the death of our client. Siemens stated that HNMC was aware of the “dangerous conditions surrounding Cali Drive’s frontage with the hospital”. Harris County was designated by defendants as a Responsible Third party.
  • Obtained a jury verdict of $12,930,000 (including prejudgment interest) for a family that lost a family member due to mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure. The matter was settled after the verdict for a confidential amount.
  • Recovered $11,500,000 for the family of an individual who died in an industrial accident.
  • Obtained $11,000,000 jury verdict in a trial that resulted from the death of a husband and father in a motor vehicle accident with a commercial truck. The commercial truck driver was not properly trained; lost control of vehicle, colliding with on-coming vehicle, killing our client. The case settled after trial for a confidential amount.
  • Obtained a jury verdict of $6,500,000 in Tarrant County, Texas for the mother and father of an individual that was killed in a motor vehicle accident as a result of a negligent driver. Defendant was operating a commercial 18-wheeler loaded with light poles through a busy Midland, TX highway when he made a reckless right turn resulting in the poles striking our clients’ son passing truck, he was killed almost instantly. He was 21 years old and beloved by his family and friends. Defendants strategically stipulated to liability right before trial and the Judge excluded all liability evidence. The jury simply heard that it was a “motor vehicle incident.” The case was tried on damages only.
