Lake Charles, LA – Five people were injured in an explosion at Westlake Chemical’s Petro Complex 2 Unit on La. 108 on Monday night. According to the Louisiana State Police and KPLC 7 News, the explosion occurred at around 11:00 p.m. while the unit, used in the production of ethylene, was undergoing maintenance.

Two of the injured employees were transported to hospitals in Lafayette and Hammond for treatment. The condition of the remaining workers is not yet known, although authorities say no one was killed in the blast.
