An investigation is in progress at Freeport LNG in Surfside Beach after reports of an explosion Wednesday. The event occurred at roughly 11:40 a.m. in the 1500 block of Lamar Street at the petrochemical facility on Quintana Island, according to Brazosport CAER.

The incident was described as “some sort of explosion” according to police and it was disclosed that the building was not under any evacuation. The Marine Division of Surfside Beach Police Department is working with Port Freeport police along with the United States Coast Guard on the waterways.
