CONROE, TX – An elderly man is dead and another person is in the hospital after a party boat capsized during a thunderstorm on Lake Conroe on Saturday night, according to KHOU.
A party boat carrying around 53 people, including crew members, capsized at about 8 p.m. near Regency Point as a thunderstorm battered Lake Conroe.
Two people were hospitalized after the accident.
An 80-year-old man from Montgomery, identified as Karl Kazenberg, was one of those victims. He was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
A second person was hospitalized in stable condition.
Authorities also had to decontaminate multiple people due to a diesel fuel spill in the lake.
The 53 people on the boat were assisted by residents living near the scene, who helped pull victims from the water before authorities arrived.
The boat crash remains under investigation, though the thunderstorm is expected to have contributed.
